Semoine Boyer of CocoaLuxe: Routine to Ritual, and Fragrance for When You Can't Get Away

Semoine Boyer of CocoaLuxe: Routine to Ritual, and Fragrance for When You Can't Get Away

Ep 134: Semoine Boyer of CocoaLuxe: Routine to Ritual, and Fragrance for When You Can't Get Away

Part of noseyAF's 31 Days of Black Business series 🖤

She started making these products because she needed somewhere to go when she couldn't actually go anywhere.

Semoine Boyer is the founder of CocoaLuxe Home and Spa: candles, body butters, scrubs, oils, and body sprays, all made with fragrance blends she creates herself. She started making them because she needed downtime from being a wife, a mom to a son with special needs, and a full-time job in IT. She'll tell you plainly she's not a certified perfumer. She just made what she wanted and it worked.

What We Talk About

  • The difference between a self-care routine and a self-care ritual, and why she thinks most of us are doing the first one on autopilot
  • Caribbean Sunrise, and how a fragrance can take you somewhere you can't afford to fly
  • What private label actually means, and how she'll build a whole product line under someone else's brand name
  • Why she'd rather eat pork than deal with social media, and what she did about it
  • The unexpected turn: she paused this business three separate times for her family, and the year she finally took off to rest is the year it worked

If you love second-act reinventions that don't skip the hard part, this episode is for you.

All about Semoine Boyer

You're gonna love Semoine — she's a full-transparency kind of person, and she'll say so herself before she tells you the thing. Founder of CocoaLuxe Home and Spa, she builds body care and home fragrance with high-quality ingredients and distinctive blends, creating sensory experiences meant to inspire calm, confidence, and connection. She has retail partnerships, private label clients, and wholesale on the way. Her father raised her to give back, and she's working on a way to do that for other small business owners in Prince George's County. Her definition of luxury: rest. Her one ritual she'll never skip: staying hydrated and moisturized, with her own body butter, every single night.

Well, I just said that. So they're double wonderful and they are open for business. So today's guest wants you to stop thinking about self care as a routine and start thinking about about it as a ritual. Semoine Boyer is the founder of CocoaLuxe Candles, body butter, scrubs, oils, all of it is made with her own custom fragrance blends. And she started making these products because she needed somewhere to go when she couldn't actually go anywhere. And I gotta tell y', all, I really left this conversation feeling so good. So moisturized.I just, I just love Semoine so much and what she is building at CocoaLuxe. So I can't wait for you to meet her. So let's play our wonderful theme song. Are you getting tired of it yet? I hope not. I never do.So let's play our theme song and then we're gonna meet Ms. Semoine from CocoaLuxe. Yourself.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Check yourself, don't wreck yourself. If you know me then you know.

Stephanie Graham

That I be knowing what's up.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Hey, Stephanie Graham is nosy as.

Stephanie Graham

Semoine. Welcome to nosey af.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Thank you for having me.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah, I am so excited to have you here. So let's get into this. So for people meeting you for the first time, please share.Like, what is CocoaLuxe and what experience are you hoping customers have when they bring your products into their lives?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Certainly CocoaLuxe Home and Spa is a body care candle and home fragrance line. And my intention with CocoaLuxe is to help people transform their everyday self care routine into bold, beautiful and intentional self care rituals. My products are made with mostly plant based ingredients. Certified fragrance oils, certified essential oils. The fragrance blends that I create for my products are custom handmade by me. Wow.So the fragrances. Yeah, the fragrances are, they're potent, they evoke memories or they help you create a memory in a moment.

Stephanie Graham

How did you. Now I might say this wrong, but how did you like develop a nose for fragrances especially to create them?Because I feel like I can, like, I know what smells good. But for somebody to be able to say like, let me put this together.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

For others, like, how so full transparency. I, I don't have a background in fragrance blending. I am not a, I don't know how you say, I'm not a certified perfumer.I'm not a certified cosmetic chemist or whatever the term is. These are products that I made years ago. Some of these products I made when I was a teenager for myself.

Stephanie Graham

Oh, wow.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Regarding the fragrances, it's whatever piques my interest, whatever evokes an emotion for me and what I believe will entice other people. So, for example, there is a fragrance and it's a popular fragrance blend called Caribbean Sunrise. And when I smelled that fragrance, I immediately thought to myself, oh, this is going to be fabulous for those days when I can't make a trip, you know, out of the country, I can't take a vacation, but I can create my own space at home and feel like I'm in the Caribbean or feel that I'm at some island and I'm resting, I'm relaxing, I'm resetting.

Stephanie Graham

I love that it's like that old phrase when they say go to the library to travel. I feel like you can travel by using fragrance, you know? Exactly. I love that. You spent 18 years in IT and management consulting before becoming an entrepreneur. What was happening in your life that made you decide it was time for a different path?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Several things happened in order for me to land on that decision to, to pivot.I enjoyed the work that I did in IT and in management consulting, but I was increasingly reaching the point of burnout, as several people, especially women, do. I am also a wife, I'm also a mother, and I put my all, and have been putting my all into all of those things. The reason why I decided to finally move into CocoaLuxe full time was because I really felt the desire to put the true time and focus that I needed into my business, into my customers, into my mission, my why full time? I had started CocoaLuxe about seven years ago, but I had to stop several times. The first time I put my business on pause was due to our son being diagnosed with speech dyspraxia. So I put CocoaLuxe on the back burner.I still maintained my full time job and I allocated time into the speech therapy appointments and all the other, you know, things that we did to porn to him so that he now, as a teenager, is successful and thriving and living and do all the things that he's doing as a teenager. The second time I had to put CocoaLuxe on pause was my husband had to be a full time caregiver for his mother. So I picked up the slack, so to speak, in our household so he could dedicate the time that was needed for her because her health significantly declined quickly and significantly declined and then most recently my parents passed away. I'm sorry, within a week and a half of each other. My father right around Christmas in 22 and my mother right after New Year's in 23.So I'm an only child and me too.

Stephanie Graham

Yay.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Only.

Stephanie Graham

Yes. Okay.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So all the things that one typically does when a person, a loved one passes away, the estate planning, all the things I had to do that on my own because again, I'm an only child. And during that process, again working full time, focusing on Coca Lux.And at that time it was a part time business taking care of the family stuff as a result of my parents passing away. And then I had other family members, unfortunately passed away right after that. 24 Was not a good year.So I took, I decided in 2024 to take time off to, to rest because I truly was burnt out. To ask me about 2023, I couldn't tell you what happened that year. Yeah. It literally was to that point for me, mentally, physically and emotionally.

Stephanie Graham

Wow.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

My husband said, hey, why don't you, during this time off, you know, dive into something that you love. Dive into CocoaLuxe. And that's what I did. We gave it a year. In my mind, I thought I probably won't go back to my full time job if I'm successful. And I ended up that year doing really good. I really found and tapped into my passion and joy and I decided not to go back. And so here we are.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. What is the difference between self care and self ritual?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

That is a great question.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

And this is my response, my opinion, my viewer perspective, a self care routine is just that, it's routine without thinking. I know that may be a controversial statement, but literally in my view it's without thinking you're doing all the things to take care of yourself.Self care is more than soaking in a tub, writing in a journal, lighting a candle and meditating. There's actually seven, some people say nine pillars of self care. And what I focus on is one of those pillars which is the physical aspect of self care. So a self care routine could be every day I soak in the tub. Every day I use a scrub, every day I light a candle and I sit in peace and stillness. That can be your routine. For me, I am setting a ritual and also a lot of people with self care, it's, you know, I take a Sunday and I honor myself or do something special for myself or once a month for me. I am advocating a daily self care ritual. So what is it that you do?The 1 to 20 the 50, 11 things that you will do truly for yourself and you honor yourself by doing that ritual. And I'll use myself as an example. For me, my self care routine begins in the morning. I wake up, have a glass of water and I will do.I'll spend five minutes with listening to a meditation, sitting in stillness. I have a spot here in my office that is dedicated to being able to meditate. I have my pillows, my mat, whatever.I follow that up with a quick asana, yoga asana. And then I start my day with you know, getting the family up and out of the house.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Um, and then in the evening I do the same thing. I have a ritual, I light a candle. I excuse me, I even have like a wash routine that I use. Um, I end the day again with meditation, with stretching.I write down how I feel. Those are routines. That's what I do every single day. And then on the weekends I add to that routine.I'm being very intentional about my self care so that in turn I'm intentional about how I am as a whole mind, body and spirit.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. You know.Cause my next question of that is is there ever a time in your own routine or your ritual? I think I like ritual. It just sounds jazzy for one. But is there ever a time where it gets repetitive and boring?Because I feel like in myself as I think of like my ritual or you know, what I'm going to do. I'm like here I go again. Lightness can, you know. And I'm trying to like make it fun. Do you have any advice around that?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

I totally get it because I'm the type of person where even when I was working in corporate I got bored easily. I did professional add. I just couldn't focus at a certain point. It's the same way with my business and with my own personal self care routine. My routine for me changes. It works for me to change my routine seasonally. So what I do in the spring slash summer is different than what I do in the fall. It's different. What I do in, in the winter I may change the type of music that I'm listening to when I am doing my brief. I shouldn't have said quick earlier. I should say brief, brief, yoga, asana. In the evenings I use different music, I'll use a different candle.I also have a book that has different journal prompts and sometimes I go to that book for me to journal and in full transparency. My life is not about being able to open up a journal and write. It just isn't so I'm journaling on my laptop, you know, and that could be something different. There may be times where you feel like I really want to pull out a journal, grab my pen, pencil or whatever and write. And there may be times where, you know what, what's going to keep me connected and settled is to type it out. So I hope I answered your question.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

I don't prescribe to you half your root, your ritual, your self care ritual, or just what you do every day has to be the same thing. It can be based on how you feel when you wake up.

Stephanie Graham

Right.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

What you're exposed to when you get up or in the middle of the day. So yeah, I don't prescribe to doing the same thing. I'm. I'm really am a, you know, how do I feel? And that's how I'm gonna flow in that moment.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. So it sounds like ritual is really just making it like a promise to yourself.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yes.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. Yeah. Thank you for explaining that because I feel like, you know, so many of us can just move on autopilot.Nice to hear you explain, like how you use that to reconnect with yourself, your process.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yeah, exactly. And that ties back to when I worked in corporate. It got to the point where I was, I did feel like I was working on autopilot.I was working and I worked up to 55, 60 hour weeks.

Stephanie Graham

Wow.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

And so it did. It felt like I'm on this freeway or hamster wheel and I don't know how to slow down, stop or get off or, you know, transition into the next lane.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.So then when you were always working and you had so much going on with your family and, you know, with marriage and everything, all of those things, you would always come back to this like luxury practice of making these products back from when you were a young person.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yeah, it was my way to recenter and reset. You know how some people say, oh, I don't have a hobby, I don't have something that, that helps me reach this point of calm? People do.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

And for me, it was my creative side.Even when I was working corporate, if I had a stressful week or stressful day, I found peace by making things, making a candle, making a body oil, et cetera. And the bonus was then I could use it for myself.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

But yeah, it may sound a little odd, but yeah, for me it was a way for me to just kind of reset because while I was, I'm in the process, or I was in the process of making candles, I just focused Again on the steps to make the candle and the time that I was taking to pour the wax, stirring the fragrance into the wax, and it just allowed me to slow down because I was going constantly going constantly doing something. So, yeah, that helped a lot and still does.

Stephanie Graham

What's it been like to create products that are in the world for others? Like, this has been such a. I want to say therapeutic.I don't know if that's the right word, but it's been such like a practice for you to like, it even seems like making the candle, slowing down and really just using these oils and everything to really just take care of yourself. What's that like to give to other people?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

You. That. That's the exact word. Therapeutic.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So for me, making the products was therapeutic because it's something different than what I was doing in corporate. Totally different.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

And of course, making, making the products and using them for myself was therapeutic. And it's therapeutic for me to see people, women and men use my products and they get what I am trying to share. They get my why, which is you need to slow down, you need to stop, be still, reset, honor yourself however you want to honor yourself. If it's just again, you know, exfoliating your skin is honoring yourself, then, hey, go for it.But for me, it's therapeutic to hear people say, oh, I love your products. Your fragrance is amazing. You know, whatever. Fill in the blanks. That brings me joy when I'm at vending or I'm at marketplaces or pop ups to see the reaction of people when they smell the fragrances or try the products, you know, that wow, that smile, or when they share with me the immediate thought that comes to mind when they are either trying the butter or smelling the fragrance. That's therapeutic for me because in my mind, I'm like, I got it. I did it. This is aligning to my why.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. What has been a moment that has made you stop and think like, wow, this is. This is really working.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

When I felt at peace about leaving my job.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So I took a year off. It was a year sabbatical. And I thought, if I don't go back to that employer, I'll go back to work somewhere with some company doing the same thing. When that first year I looked at my metrics, my new customers, sales places I was going, the feedback that I was receiving, that's when I knew that. And every day I was feeling better, I actually was feeling healthier. There was a point where back in 2023, 2024, I had some serious health setbacks, one of them being hypertension, the other being diagnosed with arrhythmia and waking up and my chest felt tight, you know, waking up in the middle of night sweating and it's, you know, not menopause related. It's because I'm stressed, you know, stressed out.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So when I took the time off and focused that time on CocoaLuxe and after that year, I looked to see what I accomplished. I. That's when I knew that I needed to step away. I just felt relaxed, I felt at ease, I felt happy again. I felt like me again. And I could see myself in the results and reactions of others. That's when I knew I had something. The other thing where I knew I had something was when I had my first retail partnership.

Stephanie Graham

Okay, cool.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yeah, yeah, I was, I was excited. They took a bet on me, believed in what I was doing and my goals and that's when I knew I had something for sure. And I need to give myself more time on this.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. You know, one thing I've realized or I've, I've noticed in doing this series, there is a corporate to creative pipeline like I feel, or maybe not corporate to creative, but corporate to, Yeah, I would say creative slash entrepreneurship pipeline where folks have been in corporate for a certain amount of time. They're like, you know what, actually, I'm actually going to do this. I'm going to pursue this other passion. What skills from your IT career have helped you most as a business owner?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Uh, I have to say my project management skills.

Stephanie Graham

Okay.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

I, you know, I am so thankful for that. And I am, I'm thankful, you know, I really am thankful for my employer for putting me in certain situations where I can now leverage those skills as well as, you know, client relationship skills. Because, you know, without that. But yeah, I would say project management skills because with this business and other businesses, you have to be organized. You have to work at a particular schedule and time frame, especially if you have clients. And I say clients because I do have customers direct to consumer, but I also am, I have private label clients.

Stephanie Graham

Oh, okay.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Partners, I'm going into wholesale. So with those, there are certain things that must be done in a particular time frame and you have to, much like projects, you have many things going at the same time. And so there's certain things that you have to do before you can start the next thing or there's things that need to be done in alignment.I do believe that where I am now with my business, had I not had that experience in project Management, dealing with other people, groups of people having to do things in parallel, et cetera.I don't think that I would be, certainly for this year, where I am today and successful where I am today with the business and the things that I have going on.

Stephanie Graham

That's so interesting with the private label. Like, does that mean I could have, like, a nosy AF body oil?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yeah.

Stephanie Graham

Wow. Yeah. Let's talk.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Let's talk. Yeah. So private label, really quickly is, uh, if you have an interest in your own candle line, we'll use this example. You have an interest in your own candle line. You would hire me to make your candles. And you can use certain fragrances that are already on the market or similar to the market.Let's say you like Yankee Candle, for example, some of the fragrances that Yankee Candle has. We would work together to create a candle line with fragrances similar to that.Or let's say that you want to have your own fragrance blend that nobody else will have access to. Then we'll work together on what type of fragrance is it? What type of fragrance notes are you, you know, leaning towards? And we'll, you know, we'll work together to land on that blend and make those handles for you.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

That's so cool.

Stephanie Graham

Thanks for sharing that. Because I have never heard of. I think if I think of private label, it just feels like. I don't know.It feels like I'm saying, I don't know, just insert some, like, giant corporation. So it's cool that, you know, you, as a business owner also offered that.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yep. And it could be a small business. It could be a corporation.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

I say it this way when I was explaining it to one of my customers. It is. I am helping you create a product because you don't have time, you don't have the skill or whatever inclination. So I make the product. It's your brand, your brand name on there for you to sell and succeed.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. So CocoaLuxe has E Commerce retail partnerships, the private label. How do you, like, approach growing a business without losing, like, the heart behind it?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

That is a great question, because that's what I.

Stephanie Graham

It sounds like you're busy.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yeah. And that's what I'm working on this year. So all the things, they're coming together this year. And I do.I do wake up some mornings, I go to bed some nights, and I'm having a. Oh, you know, blank moment.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

What have I gotten myself into? But I love it.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So I am at the point where I am seeking help with that. There's certain aspects. On the operational slash administrative side, I have a person to help me out.For example, I'm full of transparent moments, I'll tell you that.

Stephanie Graham

We appreciate it.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So much transparency. When it comes to social media, I'm pescatarian. I've never had pork in my life. I'd rather eat pork than have to deal with social media. That's how much I just, I spend too much time staring at the screen and I have great ideas, themes, the pillars, all that stuff. But to actually execute it, it's one of the things that's always on the bottom of my list and I don't want to do.I decided to hire someone to take that on and we have a great relationship. We, our thoughts align well, we sync well. This is what I'm thinking of. This is my theme for the month. And she goes forward and she prospers. It's great and it's relieves me of a lot of stress.I'm looking into brand ambassadors, product ambassadors that can also help me at marketplaces and pop ups because I'm usually popping up somewhere two, three times a month and it can become a lot, especially physically and prayerfully.I will do well this year and I can move from my home based work studio into someplace else where I can hire a couple people to help me with production. Right now, my son is my summer hire.

Stephanie Graham

Nice.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Helping me with making products. He's doing a great job learning the ins and outs of the business. So he's been a tremendous help for me so far. Yeah.

Stephanie Graham

This summer, what are some of your favorite products that you offer? Like what's a beginner's guide to CocoaLuxe?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Beginner's guide to CocoaLuxe. Gosh, that's a great question. I don't think I've ever thought about that. So I will respond. It depends.

Stephanie Graham

Okay.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So again, CocoaLuxe, there's the body care, so that's wash, scrubs, butters, lotions, body oils, body sprays, and then there's the home fragrance side. So that's the candles, three diffusers, room sprays, whatever. So it depends on that person and what appeals to them.If they're really into body care and you know, doing things, you know, for their body, making their skin feel good. I always say that my body butter is a great entryway introduction into my brand. For the home fragrance side, I would say the candles.

Stephanie Graham

Okay. I love that. Yeah.It feels like as you were describing that, I was, I was like picturing myself walking like into my house and like grabbing my lighter and lighting My candle. Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Yeah.

Stephanie Graham

Have you had mentors along the way or are you fully just rolling along, figuring it out on your own?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So I've had mentors along the way in my professional life, my corporate life, and when I was running CocoaLuxe as a part time business or side business.I don't think they knew that when they were mentoring me as Semoine, an IT program manager or management consultant, that they were also mentoring me for CocoaLuxe. Now, specifically the CocoaLuxe, I don't have a mentor.I would love to have a mentor, but I, I have been, I've been satisfied and I feel nourished by the other business owners that are in my circle and that I interact with. We reach out to each other, check in on each other, we share ideas, bounce ideas and challenges off of each other. So, yeah, that has been working for me right now in this moment. But I would definitely, definitely welcome a mentor as I continue to grow and I am going down these different channels and paths with my business.

Stephanie Graham

When you launched CocoaLuxe, did you invite folks back from the office into your business or did you just keep it, move in? I asked this because, you know, like with my podcast project, I don't talk about it, like at work.People have to sort of discover it and then I'll bring it up. Even if it might be beneficial for me to have said, like, hey, I have this show, maybe you could be on, you know, like all this kind of thing. But I keep it totally separate. It seems like it could be beneficial when you have products, you know, to tell people. What do you think about, about that? Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

As a reminder, I restarted my business three times.

Stephanie Graham

Sure.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So initially, CocoaLuxe was just a candle brand. I was working full time and I did not share it with my colleagues, certainly didn't share it with my manager, my VP that I reported to.But if it came up in conversation, kind of like, oh, hey, Semoine, what did you do for the weekend? I'm like, oh, you know, I did X, Y and Z. And I also spent some time making some candles. If it came out, you know, that way, if they were interested, then I would go with that flow and say, yeah, I have a business, you know, feel free to check it out. Yeah, please be mindful that I have a full time job. Da da da da. And I did that. Up until I did that meeting, I kept CocoaLuxe pretty much on the low.I didn't go out there and intentionally or forcefully talk about the brand, but if it came up in conversation in some way, then I would. And when I decided That I was going to seriously, truly, no questions, leave corporate and focus on this full time. I did say what I was going to do.In fact, one of my colleagues as I. And it was after I gave a one month notice.

Stephanie Graham

Okay. Wow.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

And I had a couple. Few of my colleagues asked me, well, what do you plan on doing? Are you going to, to another company? And I said, no, I, I've, I'm.I'm going to move forward with my business. And then I talked about what it was.

Stephanie Graham

Okay.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Um, I didn't feel like I had to keep those two lives separate.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. I'm just always curious about that. What does luxury mean to you?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

So, um, gosh, lately luxury is rest.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

I mean, luxury is rest because I'm constantly doing things for my business. True luxury for me is being able to go someplace and be in a place of silence, peace and rest.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

And I could go to the Fairfield Inn down the road and do that. And that's luxury to me. I don't have to go to, you know, Turks and Caicos or a yacht or, you know, or, you know, some 200, $300 mill. And that's, it's not, that's not always it for me. Luxury truly is. In that experience, in that moment or wherever I'm at, do I feel rested and at peace and centered with myself?

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. Thank you so much for answering that because I feel like luxury can just mean so many different things to people. I do know.Like, I feel like black women is luxury. I feel like we're a jazzy bunch, you know.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

We are.

Stephanie Graham

What's something that you're excited about next with CocoaLuxe? So.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Two things. One of them I mentioned earlier is the, the wholesaling.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Excited about that because for me, that really is just like when I went into private label and offering private label services, to me, that was like a check that I am doing something right.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

And something good. Wholesaling is the same thing. I feel the same way. Like, okay, people are interested in my products at a certain amount and at certain locations. That for me, is it, um, one of the next things I'm working on. I've always believed, and I was raised by my parents, especially my father, to give back to your community in a certain way.I'm from Oakland, California. Oh. And why did I say that? I don't know. But shout out to Oakland. You know, shout out to Oakland, California. That's right. West Oakland to be exact. So my father, he was always into giving back into the community. However he could always being Helpful. And he instilled that in me.And I want to do the same thing with my business or at least with my skills and skill set.So one of the things that I am looking to do in the coming year or years is find a way where I can give back to my business community, to businesses, small businesses, to independent entrepreneurs who are looking for ways or challenged by getting their business started or elevating their business.Whether it's, you know, a space where they can make their products or resources and tools on something like bookkeeping or accounting, being able to connect with people to that will either purchase their products or they have a place, that person can offer that entrepreneur a place or a space space to sell their products or their services. So I have some ideas, and I just need to solidify a couple of things, and I'm hopeful that I will be able to do that and give back to the community and give back to our minority business owners, especially the black community.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah, that's really beautiful.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

I currently live in Maryland, and I had the opportunity to execute this or implement this concept back home in California.

Stephanie Graham

Okay.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

But there's some challenges with doing that, you know, being thousands of miles away. So that's where I'm trying to think through. How can I do this here in the dmv. We'll see. We'll see next year. And if there's people that, you know, are interested in partnering with me or investing or whatever. But I really think that it.This would be great for our community, and especially here in Maryland, where I live, Prince George's County, Maryland, we need, you know, we need certain businesses. We need more businesses. We need to pour back into our small businesses.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah, absolutely. Being in Maryland, are you a housewives fan? Real Housewives? It's okay. Yeah, no, you don't have to be. You don't have to be. There was. There was a season when Real Housewives of Potomac, both of the housewives, were starting candle lines, and it sort of created some friction. But I'm a huge Housewives fan, and it taught me about, like, how big of a business candles are. I had no idea. And so it's just like, wow, it.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Is a big business. The industry is large, yet there's still room for entrepreneurs in that industry. In any industry, quite honestly, there's still room for people.I always tell people that you can get a slice of the pie. There's no need for us to.

Stephanie Graham

To,.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

You know, cause tension or create tension. You know, there's enough room for all of us.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. You know, as we Land the plane here. I was so curious. What's one self care ritual that you'll never skip even if it's boring?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Staying hydrated and moisturized. I'm never going to skip that. From head to toe. I'm going to stay moisturized and in particular I'm going to use my body butter. Moisturize. And another full transparency moment. There's some. Although I make most body care products, there are some brands that I like and I use but I still use my own products. With the exception of body butter. I use nobody else's body butter but mine. But that is the one self care thing that I do.The one self care ritual that I will never give up is at night. I'll, I'll take a shower. Haven't taken a bubble bath in so long and oh, I should do that. But I definitely, I'll, I'll take a shower.I'll do a whole cleansing routine and a moisturizing routine. I'll spray on some body spray. I'm dabbling into perfumes now so I'm using myself as a tester and in the bed.

Stephanie Graham

I love it.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

I'll never not do that.

Stephanie Graham

I love it. If Coco Lux had a theme song, what would it be?

Semoine McQueen Boyer

It would be golden.

Stephanie Graham

I feel like you could be a mentor.Like I get why, you know, mentorship is important in all stages but I feel like you could be a mentor, you know.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Oh gosh.

Stephanie Graham

I feel mentored by this conversation, honestly.

Semoine McQueen Boyer

Thank you.

Stephanie Graham

Yeah. So I really appreciate, you know, you taking the time to share about Coco Lux.

Semoine McQueen Boyer
